We were walking back to the metro station when we passed this beautiful scene with a big empty green field leading into the Boston skyline. Unfortunately, the lighting was terrible and I eventually gave up getting a decent image. As I have been working more in black and white, I decided to give it another try. I got rid of the big green field of negative space and focused just on the skyline and added a bunch of contrast to make the buildings the focus. I don't think it is a real special photo, but I am happy to have salvaged something from a scene I really enjoyed in real life.Brenthttp://www.blogger.com/profile/17181139494342705859noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5789235138225840666.post-83308925456124802542015-11-20T08:27:00.002-08:002015-11-20T08:27:30.007-08:00Red Rock in Black & White<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

I have been enjoying black and white a lot more lately and thinking back to some of my old photos, this was the first one I thought of because of the great contrast in the different areas of the photo getting hit with light.<br />

Another shot from inside the Narrows. There was a lot I liked about this scene. I liked the row of tress lining the river and the sun catching the orange wall and the moss covered wall on the far right. I wish the trees were more yellow, but overall I am pleased with the composition.Brenthttp://www.blogger.com/profile/17181139494342705859noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5789235138225840666.post-37113176727792582772015-11-12T07:59:00.000-08:002015-11-12T07:59:39.885-08:00Kolob Terrace Sunset<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

My first shot in Zion National Park was up Kolob Terrace at a place unofficially called Hoodoo City. This shot doesn't include any of the hoodoos, but looks beyond them at the mountain and plains. Unfortunately, we had terrible luck with sunsets and this was the best I experienced while there. Luckily I was set up because it lasted about 3 minutes was all.Brenthttp://www.blogger.com/profile/17181139494342705859noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5789235138225840666.post-5027289602780338352015-11-11T08:00:00.000-08:002015-11-11T08:00:10.929-08:00Narrows at Zion<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

Last week I was able to attend a photography workshop with the team from Improve Photography. My first morning I hiked probably 3 miles into the narrows with a small group of about 8-10 other photographers. We caught great morning light on a few of the bends. I liked this composition with the solo tree adding some color while the sun illuminated the back wall. Look forward to many many more photographs from the Zion area in the coming weeks.Brenthttp://www.blogger.com/profile/17181139494342705859noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5789235138225840666.post-23529867443918979292015-11-10T07:32:00.000-08:002015-11-10T07:32:16.875-08:00Kingston River Sunset<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

Back in 2013, we spent a week at a bed and breakfast on the river outside Kingston. One night I was treated to a magical stormy sunset. I used long exposure and was able to get good light, great reflections and awesome skies. I was without new photos to edit so I pulled this one out and re-edited it to bring out the shadows more.Brenthttp://www.blogger.com/profile/17181139494342705859noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5789235138225840666.post-84500470683045126532015-11-08T14:57:00.000-08:002015-11-08T14:57:18.775-08:00Small Shop in Downtown San Jose del Cabo<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

Indian Beach is a great little location in Ecola State Park just south of Seaside on the Oregon Coast. I was headed to Ecola Point to catch the sunset and had a half hour to kill so I drove down to Indian Beach. Luckily, the parking lot is right on the beach. I took this photo on top of a picnic table just off the parking lot. I love the highlight/shadow sliders in lightroom. I never could have made this image without them unless I went HDR. Since I was without a tripod and wouldn't have wanted to impose on their mass, HDR wouldn't have been an option anyway.Brenthttp://www.blogger.com/profile/17181139494342705859noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5789235138225840666.post-43592721784366197192015-10-25T17:17:00.000-07:002015-10-25T17:17:20.302-07:00Cattle Roaming in Mexico<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
