Phra Nang Cave

Railey, Thailand
November 22, 2012
Nikon D3100: Tamron 18-270 at 18 mm: ISO 400: 1/160 sec.: f/10
To get to this spot, I had to go through the cave and climb up the rocks, but it was the only way to get a shot of the beach without a boat.  The shadows also wreaked havoc and required a bit of processing to somewhat fix.  As you will see in the next few posts, this is an amazing beach--considered the top beach in Thailand and one of the top ten in the world.

Railey, Thailand

Nikon D3100: Tamron 18-270 at 240 mm: ISO 400: 1/250 sec.: f/10
This is not a great picture by any means as it was taken from the back of a bumpy boat, but I loved the bright green and little bungalows.

Couldn't decide between black and white or color on this one, let me know what you think.

Krabi

Krabi, Thailand
November 22, 2012
Nikon D3100: Tamron 18-270 at 30 mm: ISO 220: 1/500 sec.: f/11
After getting into Krabi the night before, we got up early and headed to the river to catch a boat to Railey.  Apparently we were up earlier than anyone else because we had to wait around quite a while for a boat.  The river opens up into a nice little bay at this point.

Coconut Drinks

Ratchaburi, Thailand
November 21, 2012
Nikon D3100: Tamron 18-270 at 240 mm: ISO 125: 1/500 sec.: f/6.30
We saw these everywhere in Thailand and I didn't believe my wife at first when she said they were coconuts.  They chop the top off and put a straw in for you.  I took this shot while we drove by in the boat.

Floating Market

Ratchaburi, Thailand
November 21, 2012
Nikon D3100: Tamron 18-270 at 18 mm: ISO 400: 1/200 sec.: f/10
On our fourth day in Thailand, we were catching a flight down South, but had a half day to kill first so on the advice of our host and with the use of his driver, we headed to the Damnoen Saduak floating market outside of Bangkok.  We had a lot of fun here and it was perfect for a couple hours.  We paid  for a longtail boat to drive us through the canals and bought a few things from the shops that line the side.  We also enjoyed some awesome and cheap food.

Nikon D3100: Tamron 18-270 at 23 mm: ISO 400: 1/30 sec.: f/7.1
This was a really cool place to see, but I just couldn't capture it the way it actually looked!

Life on Ko Kret

Ko Kret, Thailand
November 20, 2012
Nikon D3100: Tamron 18-270 at 30 mm: ISO 400: 1/25 sec.: f/7.1
I loved the houses on Ko Kret.  Most were on stilts and many, like this one, had little fields next to them.  I took a lot of photographs of homes, but this was one of the few locations I actually got off the bike to make the photo.

Ko Kret Wat

Ko Kret, Thailand
November 20, 2012
Nikon D3100: Tamron 18-270 at 42 mm: ISO 400: 1/125 sec.: f/9
After our day out exploring Ayutthaya and Lopburi, our host was nice enough to take us on a bike ride (and ferry) out to the small island of Ko Kret.  It was a pretty awesome evening.  There are no cars on Ko Kret and just a small, elevated bike path that takes you through the small shops, pottery area, houses, and fields.  I would highly recommend it to someone with a bike and some free time.  This photo is the main wat on Ko Kret

Wat Phra Ram

Nikon D3100: Tamron 18-270 at 30 mm: ISO 400: 1/320 sec.: f/10
This site was right next to Wat Phra Si Sanphet so we walked over and payed our $2 to get in, but it was hot by that time and we were pretty tired.  In the end, this was really all there was to see so I snapped a few shots and we left.

Wat Phra Si Sanphet

Ayutthaya, Thailand
November 20, 2012
Nikon D3100: Tamron 18-270 at 18 mm: ISO 250: 1/500 sec.: f/11
This is probably my favorite photo I took at this amazing location even though it shows my weaknesses in post-processing.  As much as I tried, I could not eliminate all the distortion that causes the chedi to look like it is leaning.  However, if you looked at the original you would see I was able to cut at least have of the distortion out, which tells you how bad it was.  This is a problem I am seeing with a lot of my photos that include buildings and it has been and still is a lot of work to figure out how to fix it both in the field and in post production.

These ruins offered a nice audio tour where we were able to learn a lot about the history (and distracted my wife so I could get more shots!)

Wat Phra Ram from the Back of an Elephant

Ayutthaya, Thailand
November 20, 2012
Nikon D3100: Tamron 18-270 at 23 mm: ISO 400: 1/400 sec.: f/11
We took an elephant ride through Ayutthaya and stopped for a couple minutes to take in this sight.  As I was taking this photo, I accidentally dropped my lens hood from the top of the elephant.  Amazingly, the elephant picked it up with his trunk and gave it back to me!
