Ecola Point Sunset

Ecola State Park, Oregon
July 1, 2015
Nikon D3100: Tamron 18-270 at 38 mm: ISO 100: f/16: 2.0 sec.
Most of the work I did of this view was playing with panoramas, but this was just a single image.  I pulled a lot of the shadows out of the foreground.  It was pretty late after sunset, but with the longer exposure I still got the left over red glow.

Another shot of the view from Ecola Point of the lighthouse as the last bit of the sun faded past the horizon casting a beautiful red glow over the entire sky.

Tracks to the Strip #2

Las Vegas, Nevada
April 26, 2015
Nikon D3100: Tamron 18-270 at 130 mm: ISO 100: 10 sec.: f/16
Back in April, I discovered this view from the tracks down the street from my house.  For some reason, I had extreme trouble getting the strip in focus that night and was only able to salvage two average shots.  I posted the other one here.

Seaside Bumper Cars

Seaside, Oregon
July 2, 2015
Nikon D3100: Tamron 18-270 at 18 mm: ISO 100: f/3.5: 1/50 sec.
I did a bit of work on this photo becuase I wanted it to have a retro feel.  I removed all clarity and sharpness from the metal floor and roof to get rid of distracting shadows and bright spots.

Seaside, Oregon
July 2, 2015
Nikon D3100: Tamron 18-270 at 130 mm: ISO 100: f/14: 1/160 sec.
While walking down the boardwalk, I spotted these swings on the beach and liked how they interplay with path to the ocean.

Flowers for Sale

Seaside, Oregon
July 2, 2015
Nikon D3100: Tamron 18-270 at 130 mm: ISO 100: f/7.1: 1/320 sec.
In the morning I took my two-year old for a walk down the boardwalk to reach the Promenade.  I thought this was a cool little flower stand someone had left on the side of the boardwalk.

Ecola Point Pano #2

Ecola State Park, Oregon
July 1, 2015
Nikon D3100: Tamron 18-270 at 100 mm: ISO 100: 2.0 sec.: f/16
This is a pano of 16 vertical images blended in lightroom.  I was using my old computer on its last leg so it took about 4 hours to actually get all the blending done.

Ecola Point Pano #1

Ecola State Park, Oregon
July 1, 2015
Nikon D3100: Tamron 18-270 at 85 mm: ISO 100: 2.0 sec.: f/16
Once the awesome colors from the sunset faded, I finally turned to the scene I had come to photograph.  The fading glow of the sunset provided enough light to do some long exposures and I decided to experiment with some panos.  I haven't shot a lot of panos before, but now that it is so easy in lightroom, why not?  This is an 8 image panorama. taken horizontally with an 8 stop nd filter to help blur out the water.  Unfortunately, I lost a lot of data blending these together and making it skinnier than I wanted.

Tillamook Rock Lighthouse and the Setting Sun

Ecola State Park, Oregon
July 1, 2015
Nikon D3100: Tamron 18-270 at 240 mm: ISO 100: 1/3 sec.: f/18
As the sun continued to set, I threw on an 8 stop nd filter to try and smooth out the water a little and captured the last moments of the sunset.

Tillamook Rock Lighthouse at Sunset

Ecola State Park, Oregon
July 1, 2015
Nikon D3100: Tamron 18-270 at 155 mm: ISO 100: 1/50 sec.: f/16
I made it to Ecola Point for sunset, but the angle of the sun wasn't doing a whole lot for where I wanted to Photograph.  I began exploring and found this great view of Terrible Tilly and the sun was creating this beautiful yellow glow everywhere so I decided to make a silhouette.

Indian Beach

Ecola State Park, Oregon
July 1, 2015
Nikon D3100: Tamron 18-270 at 46 mm: ISO 100: 1/13 sec.: f/20
While on a family vacation to Seaside, I took an evening and drove over to Ecola State Park to catch a sunset from Ecola Point.  I got there with 20 or so minutes to spare so I hustled down to Indian Beach just to check it out.  The sun was casting a decent glow on the beach, but nothing amazing.  I liked the trees on the side, but they were stuck in a shadow.  I took two images and combined them in a lightroom hdr.

Flying Egret

San Jose del Cabo, Mexico
May 26, 2015
Nikon D3100: Tamron 18-270 at 270 mm: ISO 100: 1/400 sec.: f/6.3
On my way out of the estuary, I found this great egret again.  I tried to sneak up on it from the trees, but I failed.  Luckily, I had my camera ready to go and was able to get this shot while it flew away.

Standing Egret

San Jose del Cabo, Mexico
May 26, 2015
Nikon D3100: Tamron 18-270 at 270 mm: ISO 100: 1/320 sec.: f/6.3
Early on in my exploration of the estuary, I spotted this Egret across the river.  I was able to grab just a couple photos before he flew off.  I found him again later and was able to catch it in flight.
