Rows of Buddhas

Ayutthaya, Thailand

Although I really enjoyed Wat Yai Chai Mongkhon, this is the reason I wanted to go.  Whenever we travel somewhere, I of course look for places I want to photograph and I loved these rows of Buddhas draped with golden sashes.  I was surprised afterwards that I actually like the middle one the best.  Usually I like to do more extreme views like the first and third.  Let me know which one you like best?

Wat Yai Chai Mongkhon

I was really excited to go to Ayutthaya.  The whole thing that got the idea for this trip going was me wanting to do a day in Angkor Wat.  Unfortunately, when planning the trip, we realized we just couldn't make Angkor Wat work unless we cancelled the islands and since I promised my wife a "relaxing" vacation, there was no way that was going to happen.  Ayutthaya was the next best thing, and thanks to the people we were staying with, we had a driver available that made the trip to Lopburi and Ayutthaya very easy!  After a quick stop at Lopburi to play with the monkeys, this was our first stop in Ayutthaya.

One More Monkey!

Lopburi, Thailand
November 20, 2012
Nikon D3100: Tamron 18-270 at 130 mm: ISO 100: 1/125 sec.: f/6
I don't know why, but I really enjoyed watching this little guy playing on this water line.  He would climb up and get his balance and then just observe all the other monkeys.

Thou Shall Not Pass

Lopburi, Thailand
November 20, 2012
Nikon D3100: Tamron 18-270 at 38 mm: ISO 140: 1/125 sec.: f/5.6
The ruins around Lopburi were teaming with wild monkeys! This was probably my wife's favorite part of the trip.  It was fun to watch the monkeys interact such as these monkeys above.

Bangkok from the River

Bangkok, Thailand
November 19, 2012
Nikon D3100: Tamron 18-270 at 92 mm: ISO 400: 1/320 sec.: f/10
This will be my last post from Bangkok.  We spent a lot of this day riding up and down the river to get to different sights and this was probably my favorite view.  Unfortunately, shooting from a boat, there wasn't much I could do to improve it.

Morning Mist

Monroe, Washington
December 24, 2012
Nikon D3100: Tamron 18-270 at 100 mm: ISO 400: 1/400 sec.: f/11
Taking a break from the endless stream of Thailand photos to share one from Christmas. This is from my brother's back yard a little ways outside of Monroe, Washington.  We spent a few days there over Christmas and I loved the way the fog would settle in the valley and along the creek bed in the mornings.  I woke up early hoping to get a sunrise, but no luck there.  I still enjoyed the fog though and this was actually taken later in the day.

The Old Man of Wat Pho

Bangkok, Thailand
November 19, 2012
Nikon D3100: Tamron 18-270 at 18 mm: ISO 400: 1/400 Sec.: f/11
Wat Pho was pretty awesome, but we were running late and still had a lot of things to see in Bangkok so I didn't have much time to take photographs.

Wat Arun

Bangkok, Thailand
November 19, 2013
Nikon D3100: Tamron 18-270 at 30 mm: ISO 320: 1/500 sec.: f/11
This was taken from across the river on the boat dock.  Didn't have much time with people rushing to get off the boat, but did what I could.

Longtail Boat

Bangkok, Thailand
November 19, 2012
Nikon D3100: Tamron 18-270 at 100 mm: ISO 400: 1/160 sec.: f/9
The longtail boats in Bangkok were all colorful with fresh paint.  Quite different than the older ones we saw in the islands.  I would have expected the opposite, but I guess the longtail boats in the islands kind of have a monopoly so they don't have to try as hard.

Living on the River

Bangkok, Thailand
November 19, 2012
Nikon D3100: Tamron 18-270 at 85 mm: ISO 400: 1/250 sec.: f/10

Nikon D3100: Tamron 18-270 at 220 mm: ISO 400: 1/100 sec.: f/9

Nikon D3100: Tamron 18-270 at 92 mm: ISO 100: 1/160 sec.: f/6.30

These were all taken from a moving boat so they aren't the best quality, but I really liked the houses along the river.  Much different than waterfront property in the US.
