The Mother Church in Boston

Boston, Massachusetts
May 25, 2014
Nikon D3100: Tamron 18-270 at 21 mm: ISO 400: 1/60 sec.: f/8
Here is another view of the Christian Science Church in Boston.  I prefer this one to my earlier one because it has the skyline in it as well.

Yavapai Sunset

Grand Canyon, Arizona
June 14, 2014
Nikon D3100: Tamron 18-270 at 21 mm: ISO 100: 2.50 sec.: f/22
With only one night at the Grand Canyon, I was hoping to get a good sunset.  I was sadly disappointed.  I drove to the Yavapai Geology Museum and set up a little early at this spot.  Early on, the colors opened up and this was the best shot I got.  Unfortunately, the colors soon faded and left me with dull gray skies.  This seems to be happening a lot to me lately.  I had one night at the beach just last week and after setting up, I got almost no sunset--the only color was behind me over the camp site rather than over the ocean.

Yaki Point at Grand Canyon

Grand Canyon, Arizona
June 14, 2014
Nikon D3100: Tamron 18-270 at 18 mm: ISO 400: 1/500 sec.: f/11
This was one of my favorite views of the first day.  If you go to the view point at Yaki Point and walk off to the left and over some boulders, this different view opens up.

Mather Point at Grand Canyon

Grand Canyon, Arizona
June 14, 2014
Nikon D3100: Tamron 18-270 at 35 mm: ISO 360: 1/500 sec.: f/11
I still have a couple Boston photos to post, but I wanted to get some more recent shots up as well.  After being in Vegas for 3 years, we finally made the time to visit the Grand Canyon.  Together with some friends, we packed into a car and drove out for a quick one-night camping trip.  The bus system that takes you along the rim worked nicely.  This stop is Mather Point.

May 26, 2014
Nikon D3100: Tamron 18-270 at 140 mm: ISO 400: 1/400 sec.: f/11
With this image, I wanted to capture the actual light from the light house.  Another image of the light house can be seen here.

Quincy Market at Faneuil Hall

Boston, Massachusetts
May 25, 2014
Nikon D3100: Tamron 18-270 at 35 mm: ISO 400: 1/320 sec.: f/10
Faneuil Hall was one of our favorite spots on the Freedom Trail.  It is actually a National Historic Park and the Ranger did a great job explaining its history.  This is the neighboring Quincy Market, which is full of food stands.  It would have been a lot of fun, but our stomachs were not doing too well after a quick 7-11 hot dog on the way to our hotel the night before so we couldn't eat anything.  We did discover how much colder Boston was then Vegas and hurried off to find our little girl a sweater.  This shot was taken from the Baby Gap right across form the market.

At the edge of this beach, this old sign is just thrown off a deck into the sand.

Nauset Light House

Eastham, Massachusetts
May 26, 2014
Nikon D3100: Tamron 18-270 at 55 mm: ISO 400: 1/500 sec.: f/11
On our way to Chapham from Provincetown, we did a quick driveby at this light house.  By this time we were getting tired and had just come from another light house so we just found a convenient place to pull off and shoot from an open window.

Provincetown Beach

Provincetown, Massachusetts
May 26, 2014
Nikon D3100: Tamron 18-270 at 21 mm: ISO 400: 1/200 sec.: f/10
Our trip to Cape Cod and Provincetown proved a little gloomy.  The rain was off and on and the weather was fairly cold.  While we enjoyed walking the streets, we found little charm.  The beaches were also nothing to be excited about.

The First Church of Christ, Scientist

Boston, Massachusetts
May 25, 2014
Nikon D3100: Tamron 18-270 at 27 mm: ISO 400: 1/80 sec.: f/8
This church is known as the Mother Church by the First Church of Christ, Scientist.  It was about a 30 minute walk from our hotel so after a little rest and dinner, we walked there after stopping at Copley Square.  It was closed so we couldn't go in, but the sun was hitting it just right.

Boston Architecture

Boston, Massachusetts
May 25, 2014
Nikon D3100: Tamron 18-270 at 55 mm: ISO 400: 1/160 sec.: f/9
Early in our first day in Boston, we visited the Park Street Church and the Granary Hill Burial Grounds.  While in the burial grounds I saw this wonderful green building and loved it contrast with the brick and bright green/yellow leaves.

Cape Cod Highland Light

Cape Cod, Massachusetts
May 26, 2014
Nikon D3100: Tamron 18-270 at 50 mm: ISO 320: 1/500 sec.: f/11
Not far from Head of Meadows Beach, we stopped at the Cape Cod Highland Light House.  While it wasn't the prettiest light house, it was interesting. For a small fee, you could climb up to the top of the lighthouse.  In fact, my wife is in the lighthouse for this photo as we had to take turns staying at the bottom with the baby.  I walked out to the cliff edge where the light house used to be before it was relocated, but the view was nothing special.

Head of the Meadow Beach

Cape Cod, Massachusetts
May 26, 2014
Nikon D3100: Tamron 18-270 at 35 mm: ISO 200: 1/500 sec.: f/11
Our Second day in Boston, we rented a car and drove to Cape Cod for the day.  We made a couple stops on the way to Provincetown and then a few more on the way back.  We stopped at this beach just after leaving Provincetown.  Our baby had just fallen asleep so my wife stayed in the car while I ran over the hill to see the beach and take a few shots.

Budding Cactus

Red Rock Canyon, Nevada
May 10, 2014
Nikon D3100: Tamron 18-270 at 110 mm: ISO 100: 1/60 sec.: F/8
This is the final shot from my hike up icebox canyon.  I will get more Boston and Cape Cod photos up soon and then some from the Grand Canyon.  Although this cactus was not yet in bloom, the sun was hitting it so perfectly, I thought it made a good shot.
