Pollinating Bee

Boise, Idaho
August 31, 2014
Nikon D3100: Tamron 18-270 at 270 mm: ISO 100: 1/500 sec.: f/8
The grounds of the Old Idaho Penitentiary were well manicured with beautiful flowers. This one was put to good use by this little bee.  I kept trying to get him to pull his head out, but every time he did, he flew away.

Jail Cell inside the Old Idaho Penitentiary #3

Boise, Idaho
August 31, 2014
Nikon D3100: Tamron 18-270 at 32 mm: ISO 100: 1/60 sec.: f/11: flash
The final composition of this shot.  To make up for not having a tripod, I decided to try using the flash to speed up the shutter and darken the bright light in the background to give the image a different feel.

Jail Cell inside the Old Idaho Penitentiary #2

Boise, Idaho
August 31, 2014
Nikon D3100: Tamron 18-270 at 18 mm: ISO 500: 1/16 sec.: f/6.30
I loved this set up and spent a few minutes trying to capture the depth along the row of cells.  I was running behind the family and was without a tripod, making it difficult to capture the image I wanted, but I came away with three shots I was at least satisfied with.  This is the Second.

Inside the Old Idaho Penitentiary

Boise, Idaho
August 31, 2014
Nikon D3100: Tamron 18-270 at 18 mm: ISO 400: 1/15 sec.: f/6.30
One thing that was neat about the Old Idaho Penitentiary was each building was different as they were built at different times throughout the last century or so.  The funny part about this building was all the cells face one wall where the shower was located.  I can imagine taking a shower wasn't much fun in there.

Old Idaho Penitentiary

Old Idaho Penitentiary
August 31, 2014
Nikon D3100: Tamron 18-270 at 120 mm: ISO 400: 1/250 sec.: f/10
While we were visiting my parents in Boise, we decided to get out and see some of the sites.  We decided to go out to the Old Idaho Penitentiary as I had never been.  It was a great visit.  The grounds were really pretty and there was a lot of history.  I highly recommend to anyone in Boise.

Settler's Grove of Ancient Cedars

Shoshone County, Idaho
July 17, 2013
Nikon D3100: Tamron 18-270 at 18 mm: ISO 100: .50 sec.: f/14
Having finally caught up on my editing, I started going through some old photos that I like from previous trips that didn't make the first cut.  This is a decaying log in the Settler's Grove taken during our week in Northern Idaho last summer.  Previous photos from the Settler's Grove can be found herehere and here.

Floating lanterns

Nehalem Bay State Park, Oregon
July 12, 2014
Nikon D3100: Tamron 18-270 at 18 mm: ISO 800: 1/30 sec.: f/3.50
While at Nehalem Bay with my family, we did floating lanterns in memory of my nephew who passed away last year.  While it was beautiful watching the lanterns float over the bay, it was really difficult to shoot as I was mainly focused on the people letting them go, it was dark, and I had to go handheld.  This was the best shot I made of a lantern in the air.
